JASPER, ALTA. — Nearly seven weeks since a wildfire forced the evacuation of Jasper National Park and burned nearly a third of the townsite's structures, Parks Canada says the blaze is now officially under control.

The $14-million project is expected to be completed in January 2025, although it will take another month afterward before the lodge can house residents.

“We do share this landscape with wildlife and it’s our responsibility to know how to recreate in the area with wildlife, especially during this sensitive time for the elk.”

Canada Post is proposing an increase to regulated postage rates next year, bringing the price of most stamps up by 25 cents to $1.24.
