The Municipality of Jasper is postponing the start of the paid parking pilot project due to the new signage being damaged in shipping.

The pilot project was scheduled to begin July 15. No new date has been given.

Once the new signage arrives and is installed, the municipality will cover up the signs until a new launch date is announced.

No paid parking restrictions will come into effect until the signage is prominently displayed on the streets.

The municipality says to watch its social media channels and website for an announcement.

Under the pilot project, all current two-hour parking will cost $2 per hour between the hours of 9 a.m. and 5 p.m.

To pay, drivers will need to download and use a parking app on their smartphone, or scan/tap a sign to pay without the need to download an app.

Drivers can also pay in cash at the municipal administration office.

Off-street parking lots will remain free to use, as will on-street 15-minute drop-off zones and accessible parking stalls.

During the hours that paid parking is in effect, resident parking passes will be required for on-street parking in a one-block radius from the pilot project area.

Residential passes will not be required outside of these hours.

Residents in the designated areas are asked to create a free HotSpot account and register their vehicles there.
