A 70-year-old male from Edmonton has died due to an accidental fall during an ice climb at Maligne Canyon near the 5th Bridge on Feb. 17.
Jasper RCMP responded to the incident at approximately 1:35 p.m. that day along with the Parks Canada Visitor Safety and Emergency Medical Services.
Bystanders attempted to provide first aid but were unsuccessful. The male was deceased at the scene and a helicopter contracted by Parks Canada came to extract him from Maligne Canyon.
"Jasper RCMP would like to thank the members of the public who provided assistance during this incident," an RCMP release stated. "The family has asked for privacy during this difficult time."
Police say no further updates will be provided.
