GRANDE CACHE – Packages containing over $122,500 in contraband and unauthorized items were seized at Grande Cache Institution on Sunday (July 27).

The contraband and unauthorized items seized included methamphetamine, heroin, shatter, a drone and a cell phone.

The total estimated institutional value of these seizures is $122,500.

The Correctional Service of Canada (CSC) says police have been notified, and the institution is investigating.

At least three other major seizures have occurred at the Grande Cache institution this year, such as the seizure of over $143,000 in contraband and unauthorized items on April 1.

According to CSC, various tools are used to prevent drugs from entering its institutions, including ion scanners and drug-detector dogs.

CSC has a tip line at 1‑866‑780‑3784 to receive any additional information about activities related to security at federal institutions.

Grande Cache Institution, a medium-security federal institution, is located around 200 kilometres north of Jasper.
