Parks Canada will launch campground reservations for Jasper National Park on April 9 at 8 a.m.
Reservations will open for Wapiti Campground, Wabasso Campground, Pocahontas Campground, Overflow Campground (May 21-24 only) and Palisades Centre.
For the Whistlers Campground, reservations will open on a separate launch day in June.
“It’ll be opening this summer, no doubt about that,” said Steve Young, spokesperson for Jasper National Park.
“As soon as PCL Ltd. (contractors) can confirm a date, as soon as things are inhabitable, we’ll open the reservation system.”
Young said the newly renovated Whistlers Campground will have a “soft launch”
“This is definitely the biggest infrastructure investment in Jasper National Park,” he added.
Whistlers Campground has a brand new registration centre, repaved roads, improved electrical and sanitation services and 18 new washroom and shower facilities.
All roads have been repaved at the campground, while the campsites have been levelled and restored with new picnic tables and fire pits.
All other frontcountry campgrounds are non-reservable and available on a first-come, first-served basis. Backcountry camping reservations open April 16 at 8 a.m.
Whirlpool group camping may not open due to health restrictions.
Parks Canada expects a high volume of people reserving campsites.
