Hinton Movies is returning to the Performing Arts Theatre of Hinton (PATH) after 21 months of being shut down due to COVID-19.
The PATH is reopening with clear COVID management requirements, which will allow for 100 per cent occupancy.
“We can’t wait to welcome movie-lovers back to the PATH, as nothing compares to the big screen, big sound and buttered popcorn that we’ve been missing for so long,” said Ann Stewart, manager of Hinton Movies, in a news release.
Hinton Movies was initiated in 2017 by Rotary Club of Hinton.
This was the first cinema experience for those in Hinton since the Roxy Theatre & Performing Arts Centre burned down in 2009.
“When the opportunity with the new building that was the performing arts centre occurred, the Rotary Club felt it was time to bring big screen movies back to town for entertainment for the citizens,” said Bernie Kreiner, treasurer of the Hinton Movie Presentation Society.
Before the first lockdown in March 2020, Kreiner said Hinton Movies was breaking even and had a positive reception from the community.
The decision to resume screenings comes as more movies are being released and health regulations allow theatres to operate more normally.
“We’re feeling confident that the moviegoers of Hinton and area will come back,” Kreiner said.
“It’s great to see that Hollywood is now releasing movies again for six-to-eight weeks for big screen showing before converting them into something else.”
Hinton Movies will participate in the Restrictions Exemption Program, meaning all moviegoers must provide proof of vaccination before being allowed to enjoy the movies.
Masks must also be worn everywhere in the building except when guests are in their seats eating and drinking.
Beginning Dec. 27, the venue will be screening “Ghostbusters: Afterlife,” and this will be followed by “Sing 2,” “Spiderman: No Way Home” and “The Matrix 4” in January.
