Dear readers, We have had a tumultuous few weeks in Jasper. I, like most of you, feel like I have had my business and personal life thrown into a whirlwind. But as the dust begins to settle on our “new normal,” we have to look forward.

After a hectic week of cancellations, closures and rapidly changing social guidelines, these last few days have felt decidedly more calm. We have started to settle into this ‘new normal’ and our mindsets are adjusting.

A lot can change in a week. By the time this week's edition of the Fitzhugh is in print, I am sure some of it will be out of date. The global and local situations are changing so rapidly it’s difficult to keep up. But keep up, the Fitzhugh will.

Just kidding. It’s always interesting to see how people react when faced with a new situation. Yes, COVID-19, the novel coronavirus, is making people sick around the world. No, you don’t need to panic.

Two weeks ago I was the unfortunate subject of a medical emergency. It was a scary, traumatizing experience, but one that would have been much worse without the doctors, nurses and paramedics of Alberta who took me into their care.
