JASPER – A 27-year-old man is facing charges after police received multiple complaints about a dangerous driver in the Jasper area on Sunday (Aug. 17).
Shortly after receiving the complaints, Jasper RCMP received another call about a collision between this vehicle, that police later determined to be stolen, and a semi-truck.
Jasper RCMP arrived on scene, identified and arrested the suspect, who was later identified as the suspect in another Jasper vehicle theft investigation. That investigation culminated in Hinton.
Chase Allen Fogarty-Landsman, a resident of Jasper, was charged with two counts of possession of stolen property over $5,000, one count of possession of stolen property under $5,000 and one count of dangerous driving.
“I would like to start by thanking Hinton RCMP detachment who has been partnering with Jasper RCMP in order to address crime reduction in both our detachment areas” said Sgt. Rick Bidaisee, detachment commander of the Jasper RCMP, in a statement. “Further thanks go out to the public who called in the dangerous driving patterns, and we encourage them to keep calling in suspicious or criminal activity in the area.”
According to Bidaisee, five vehicles have been stolen in the Jasper area within the last two months but have since been recovered with the assistance of the Hinton detachment and the Edmonton Police Service.
“We all have a part to play in ensuring public safety, from calling in incidents to securing our property to reduce the risk of theft,” he added.
Fogarty-Landsman was brought before a justice of the peace and released on conditions. He is scheduled to appear in Jasper court on Sept. 11 and Hinton court on Sept. 17.
