The juniors spent their final two ice times competing against each other in a house tournament, said Jasper Curling Club president Lee Chorley. The wind up was a way of recognizing the junior curlers and celebrating tournament winners.

Stompin’ Tom Connors thought he had preserved his place in the great Canadian songbook when he rhymed about tobacco pickers, miners, long-haul truck drivers and tomato farmers.

The three-day spectacle began with a school-wide assembly where Science in Motion outreach worker Dan Alfano gave students a “bite-sized science” presentation.

In that 2002 study, Jasper’s changing demographic and higher foreign worker population was not addressed, said Chad Gulevich, one of JCHC’s directors.

Both artists are signed to Cameron House Records and have separate careers, but have also played together at the legendary Cameron House since 2011. The pair released their debut albums in late 2012.

The night was filled with reminiscences. One honourary member who attended, Bob Dowling, was also at the first meeting in 1963.

“That’s what makes Jasper so special. He’s a bit mysterious, as well as mischievous,” said Pattie Pavlov, executive director of the Jasper Park Chamber of Commerce.

Sharing the spirit in Jasper Jasper Park Chamber of Commerce, Friends of Jasper National Park, Parks Canada, Tourism Jasper and the Jasper Adult Learning Centre have teamed together to create a customized training program.

This year’s gala proceeds will benefit HIV West Yellowhead and the Jasper Cancer Action and Support Group. “This is the event’s fifth anniversary,” said Andrea Quick, executive director of HIV West Yellowhead.
