Welcome to your Jasper Seniors Society News column, which appears every two weeks courtesy of the Jasper Fitzhugh.
The Community Dinners are underway with different menus being offered each week by various local restaurants and prepared and served by community volunteers. Due to the recent high volume, the doors will now be open to Seniors at 4:30 p.m., families with children at 5 p.m. and open to everyone at 5:30 p.m. All society members get a preview of each weekly menu.
As mentioned before, we are looking to invest some of our funds into various projects, but we would like your input.
We want to hear from all seniors about what the Seniors Society may invest in to reap long term benefits for all seniors. One suggestion is we donate to the Alpine Lodge to help with funding for their generator in case of future power outages. Another is a bench for Seniors outside the Seniors Lounge.
Please share this with your friends and email us with any ideas to [email protected] by Feb. 12.
We would then have an afternoon tea held solely for identifying these future goals and would be open to all seniors.
An Indoor Walking Group has started at the Multi-Purpose Hall at the Jasper Activity Centre. The times are Mondays from 10 a.m. to noon, Wednesdays from 2 to 4 p.m. and Saturdays from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. This indoor walking space is free on a drop-in basis. Go at your own pace and please wear clean, non-marking indoor shoes. We wish to thank the Municipality for making this space available for the safety and health of all residents and especially seniors. Before you walk, please call 780-852-3381 to confirm that this space is available as it is subject to other events and hall use. Thank you.
Thanks to Kim Stark, there is a sign-in book whenever you walk just to track the interest in promoting this facility and to expand membership. Kim would like names and emails of anyone who supports this idea and would be willing to be considered members of the Walking Club. This is to enable Kim to form a non-profit society and prove there is a lot of interest in having such a walking area available on a year-round basis. You may have read the full article in the Fitzhugh recently.
The Snow Angels program is supported by community volunteers and assists those experiencing barriers to shovelling their sidewalks during the winter months. If anyone is interested in receiving a Snow Angels sign for their yard for assistance with snow shovelling or would like more information on volunteering and how to enter for the $100 gift card, please reach out to Kacie Whyte by email at [email protected] or by phone at 780-931-3364.
Glenda the Great Catering Service, which helps many in our community, is requiring drivers to assist delivering meals. Please contact Glenda directly at 780-931-6110. Thank you, Glenda!

Support the society that supports you! Please choose Jasper Seniors Society as the donation recipient at TGP.
Anyone over 55 years of age can join the society for a nominal $10 annual fee and receive newsletters and invitations to outings and functions throughout the year. The objectives of the society, in part, are to promote the interests of seniors as well as to coordinate the services available to seniors in the community. The society manages and maintains a Seniors’ Lounge in the Activity Centre where our monthly meetings take place on the second Monday of each month.
Our next meeting will be on Monday, Feb. 12 at 1:30 p.m. at the Seniors’ Lounge at the Jasper Activity Centre.
All seniors are welcome to attend and see what we are about. You can then decide if membership will be a benefit to you. If you have any ideas or wish to voice any concerns, please feel free to contact Janis Marks at 780-852-3973 or email [email protected]. Let us know how we can make everyday living better for all seniors in Jasper!
