You might know by now that the Jasper Municipal Library has reopened to the public, but did you know that we now offer free memberships? That’s right. As of March 10, residents of Jasper can sign up for library services free, regardless of their age.

Even without a library card, members of the public can browse, use our Wi-Fi and public computers and – once it is safe to do so – participate in programs or just hang out.

Having a membership, however, means access to countless physical and digital resources including books, newspapers, music, movies, magazines and academic materials from (and in) libraries all over the province. It also means access to learning opportunities like auto repair, travel, genealogy databases, grant funding and language-learning software. We also have access to the Centre for Equitable Library Access and the National Network for Equitable Library Service for those with print disabilities. Our staff can help you navigate any of these resources. You need only ask.

Looking for a digital way to manage your library account? The TRACpac app is available for both Apple and Android devices. Once you have set up your membership, this app allows you to keep track of what library items you have checked out, when items are due, where your interlibrary requests are and more. You are also able to use the app to check out your items. Ask the staff to show you how.

To sign up for a library membership, please bring your government picture ID, such as passport, driver’s license or provincial ID to the library. We’ll also need proof that you live or work in town, for example, a pay stub, letter of employment or rental agreement. No copies are taken of this information. If you are isolating or not comfortable in public spaces, please call us at 780-852-3652 or email [email protected]; we can arrange for no-contact service.

Our hours are Wednesdays and Thursdays from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., Fridays and Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Social distancing is in effect, masks are mandatory and we ask that you use the hand sanitizer when entering and exiting the building. All visitors are limited to one hour in the library, with a maximum of 25 people in the library at one time. Current library restrictions limit computer and Wi-Fi spot users to 45 minutes to allow staff to clean between users. The library also offers printing, photocopying and faxing for a fee.

So welcome to the Jasper Municipal Library. We look forward to seeing you.
