Dear editor,
What were they thinking by removing the left turning lane into Jasper's Cemetery? Many of us with loved ones there do visit regularly.
Recently, while stopped, signal on and waiting for oncoming traffic to clear, before turning left onto the cemetery road, I was nearly rear-ended by a vehicle (obviously not paying attention) that at the last minute passed by me on the right hand shoulder actually rocking my car as it sped by. Not to mention the backlog of cars, that did wait, till I turned.
Had the car hit me, I would have been propelled into oncoming traffic and suffered a head-on collision as well - probably not surviving. The "what-ifs" are still haunting me.
Then to further complicate the turn into the cemetery, driving west there is a freshly painted arrow indicating you can either drive straight or turn right onto the cemetery road. I've witnessed several out-of-province cars making a right turn, probably thinking it leads to the townsite, then immediately making a U-Turn to get back onto the highway. Another, signaled and started to make a right turn then quickly swung back into traffic when they realized that's not where they want to go and nearly sideswiped a car in the process. Even making the turn is a challenge because of its angle.
Those that can, please do something to fix this problem.
We've had far too many terrible and tragic accidents, on our roadways, without creating "an accident waiting to happen.”
