Jasper youth got some entrepreneurial experience and pocket change through lemonade stands set up around downtown on June 19.

Hosted by Community Futures West Yellowhead, Lemonade Day is a fun, experimental program that teaches youth how to start, own and operate their very own business – a lemonade stand.

Jasper had four lemonade stands set up that residents and visitors could drop by and enjoy a fresh cold glass of lemonade.

Participating in lemonade day kids learn business skills, responsibility, financial literacy, goal setting and most importantly team work.

The youth set a goal, make a business plan, go out in their community and work out the plan they created and then try to achieve the goal they set out for themselves.

At the end of the day, the kids get to keep all the money they made from their sales.

Part of the boy’s business plan was to donate 25 per cent of their profits to the Jasper Skatepark Committee, and they made a donation of $100, a little more than their goal.

All lemonade-stand owners want to thank the community for supporting their businesses and hope to see everyone back next year for another Lemonade Day.
