After a long year of dealing with COVID and isolation, some people gave a great sigh of relief when the restrictions started being eased away.
Once organizers were allowed to start up their outdoor programs again, Jasper Settlement Services has partnered with Closerangekickboxing and has offered a great outdoor activity for locals to stay fit and learn a new skill.
“Throughout the past year, we have all been looking towards the future, hoping to get back outside with friends and enjoy some activities,” said Chris Woo with Jasper Settlement Services.
They started on Sunday, June 20 at one in Commemoration Park and continued the Sunday after that.
The kickboxing class is hosted by Dez Godfrey, a longtime member of the community.
Godfrey has been practicing Taekwondo for 23 years. He moved here to Canada from Jamaica in 2006.
Godfrey took a 10-year break and entered the classroom again in 2016 where he trained in kickboxing, Muay Thai and more.
In 2019, he participated at the Alberta open and come home with two medals.
Kickboxing is a great way to get back outside and get active. It can also improve cardiovascular health, strength and balance.
It is a great way to start off your summer season and show the rest of the community how fun it can be to get back to “normal” life.
Teens and adults came down to learn new skills, gain confidence and most importantly have fun with friends again.
Jasper Settlement Services wanted to thank everyone who has participated in the class.
They have a lot of great things in the works and can’t wait to continue sharing them with the community.
So, keep your eyes on Jasper Settlement Services, amazing things are coming.
