Once in a while, I will notice something in the opening credits that will catch my attention. The thing that I noticed this time is the film is a Nancy Meyers film. Who is Nancy Meyers and why is it her film? I have heard of Spielberg and Scorsese, but I can say I do not know Meyers. I did a quick search and it turns out I have viewed most of her work without realizing they were Nancy Meyers films. Each of her films I have enjoyed because they are in a category of their own. Nancy certainly knows how to make a movie and now I will watch for her name on the opening credits.

The pairing of Robert De Niro and Anne Hathaway was a brilliant move on Nancy Meyers' part. We get to see a softer side of De Niro and an edgy side of Hathaway. The movie plays to the difference in their ages and what experience brings with time or lack thereof. De Niro is hired at Anne’s company for their senior intern program. The fact that he is seventy years old makes for great comedy when he is thrown in with twenty-year olds that think they know it all.

The Intern is a film that is light hearted and does not rely on gimmicks to make it work. If you are looking for a light comedy with a few dramatic moments, check out this Nancy Meyers film.

Kevin Lazzari, owner of Video Stop, is reviewing movies for the Fitzhugh. The Intern (2015) is available on DVD, Blu-ray and for digital streaming and download.
