How does an Australian supermodel by the name of Ruby Rose become an action star? I would think the answer would be a lot of hard work.
When Ruby Rose was trying to transition from model to actress she was not able to get a manager, agent, or audition. Rose took the matter into her own hands and produced a short film called Break Free in 2014. The film went viral and helped her get cast on Orange Is The New Black. The fact that she is an impressive singer landed her a spot on the movie, Pitch Perfect 3. Her boxing skills probably helped her land a role on John Wick 2 which led to Batwoman.
After finishing season one of Batwoman she decided to move on and star in the movie The Doorman. Rose is the lead playing a former marine who becomes a doorman at an aging hotel. Jean Reno is the villain who masterminds a heist with Ruby Rose stopping him at every turn.
The movie was not well received by critics with them comparing it to Die Hard with it falling short in every possible way. Yes, I would have to agree since Die Hard is one of my favourite movies. I found the Doorman entertaining but there were some flat performances by the entire cast.
What I did like is Ruby Rose showing off her mixed martial arts skills and the movie serving as a vehicle for future projects. The lady is a triple threat and someone that I will be watching in the future.
