In 1994 the movie, The Crow was released to pave the way for three sequels and a television series.
The son of Bruce Lee was the star and the movie was based on a graphic novel. The film went on to make $50 million and attained cult status. Brandon Lee had a few movies under his belt, but the Crow is the one that people will remember him for.
The plot is based on revenge and Lee takes the concept of ‘revenge is a dish best served cold’ to a whole new level. When you add in the supernatural and a few carefully choreographed action scenes you can see why the movie was well received by audiences.
I have found you are either a fan of comic book movies or you do not give them the time of day. In 1994, I must admit I was a fan of graphic novels and always enjoyed when a comic book became a feature film. Twenty-six years have passed and I thought I would revisit The Crow to see if it was as good as my first viewing.
To my surprise I was slightly disappointed for reasons I cannot fully explain. Maybe, I have become jaded because I now compare all action movies to John Wick. I dare to think what another 26 years will do to my appreciation for films that are based on graphic novels.
Here’s to hoping the line up of comic books movies in the fall will knock my socks off.
