
Bong Joon-ho's newest film proves to the world that there is an audience for international cinema.
Winning Best Picture with a subtitled film is unprecedented at the Oscars. The reaction around the world is amazing and I will follow Joon-ho’s future career as a screenwriter and director. He joins the ranks of Scorsese, Hitchcock, Kubrick, Kurosawa, and my favourite Tarantino.
Joon-ho films can never be criticized for using the same theme in his projects. Diversity is what makes his films such a pleasure to watch. The viewer is slowly pulled in and the complexity of the plot is the best part of his films.
I enjoy movies that keep you guessing and Joon-ho’s current film certainly does just that.
The concept of class struggle has been done before, but Parasite takes you down the rabbit hole. Lines are constantly crossed throughout the movie and the audience is entertained the entire time.
Joon-ho’s film is refreshing and the viewer is rewarded for his brilliance.
The world of films might never be the same if he continues to make movies. I am sure you will see copycat versions in the next few years.
What screenwriter would not want to use the same formula to have a chance to win four Oscars? Well, maybe one Oscar would suffice because Bong Joon-ho’s film would not be hard to replicate if you studied his cinematic masterpiece a thousand times.
