Downton Abbey aired in 2011 and wrapped up in 2016.
The show had a huge fan base which I never fully understood. I had not watched the series because I thought it would be a bit on the dry side. The premise of a story about servants and nobility reminded me of another TV series called Upstairs, Downstairs which I had enjoyed in my youth. How could another show with a similar concept be that good if it had been done already?
Friends and family recommended that I watch Downton Abbey because of its brilliance. It is even rated 8.3 on imdb.com and I still ignored everyone's recommendations.
I decided recently to take a chance on the English drama and was instantly hooked. It has become one of the most addictive TV series that I ever had the pleasure of viewing.
There are heroes and villains which you would not expect based on the nature of the show.
The historical accuracy of Downton is profound and you are drawn into the plot lines each episode because of all the references. The viewer gets a glimpse of the Titanic events, World War One, and even the Spanish flu in 1918.
For me, the greatest part of the show was the vintage cars because they reflected the time period throughout the show's duration.
The cast was brilliant, but Maggie Smith steals everyone's thunder the second she is in a scene.
If you are willing to take a chance on this series I know you will be pleasantly surprised.
