The ‘80s was a decade that produced movies that will be soon forgotten. We all want films that are current and relevant. When I watched movies in the ‘80s I was not really interested in films from the ‘40s. The same can be said about the current generation. Why would anyone want to watch a film that is forty-years old? The answer is simple: because they are entertaining in their own unique way. I find myself watching films from different time periods, but movies of the ‘80s have always been my favorite. Blind Fury is one of those movies from that era and is a diamond in the rough.

Rutger Hauer plays a Vietnam soldier who suffered an injury that left him blind. After developing heightened awareness he returns to the states with an uncanny ability of wielding a sword. He sets off to find a friend that was in his unit and encounters enemies that were never part of the plan. The action is quick and bullets are no match for a blind Vietnam vet trained in sword fighting.

I am sure Rutger Hauer did not set on becoming an iconic symbol of the ‘80s. His roles have been varied over the years and he certainly contributed to the cinematic experience. When you look at all the movies that he was involved in it is fascinating how diverse they are. With 175 acting credits to his name Hauer certainly proved his passion for acting. Several of his movies have become cult classics even though they bombed at the box office. Blind Fury is one of those classics and worth a watch.
