Jasper’s Toy Library is back.
Families now have the chance to borrow toys, enjoy an indoor play space, and catch up with other parents.
Melody Gaboury, Jasper mom and owner of My Jasper Nanny, teamed up with the Anglican Church’s Reverend Andreas Sigrist to get the initiative up-and-running again.
Gaboury said: “I don't buy a lot of new toys for my kids for lots of reasons, mostly environmental, and I thought it would be nice to share the toys that we have.
“And when they get something and are not so interested in it for so long it's nice to get a new thing, and can borrow old toys.
“It’s nice for them to get something new if they want and then bring it back.”
The Toy Library, based in the Anglican Church Hall, opened in October and has “had a really great response”.
Donations have come from Jasper parents, the church network in Edmonton and a store called Once Upon a Time that sent toys and costumes after Halloween.
And now, just a couple of months after its launch, the Toy Library hall is stacked with toys, games and costumes for children to play with and borrow.
“It’s a nice place for community and connection and a place to play as well, not just take out toys,” said Gaboury.
“For people that are at home with their kids it's nice to get out and meet up with other families and connect with another parent.
“I think a lot of people rely on Parent Link for that and I hope that they are able to get some funding to continue that programming.”
Jasper Toy Library is free, with organizers asking for toys to be returned clean.
It is held at 600 Geikie Street on Wednesdays and Sundays from 3:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m.
