Hinton RCMP traffic stop leads to drug trafficking arrest

On Aug. 5, 2023, Hinton RCMP’s Crime Reduction member conducted a traffic stop in a rural area near Hinton. The occupants of the vehicle were arrested after drug paraphernalia was located, along with a bag containing what appeared to be drug residue.

On Aug. 5, 2023, Hinton RCMP’s Crime Reduction member conducted a traffic stop in a rural area near Hinton. The occupants of the vehicle were arrested after drug paraphernalia was located, along with a bag containing what appeared to be drug residue. Police searched the vehicle incidental to arrest.

As a result of the investigation, Hinton RCMP seized the following items:

  • 28 grams of methamphetamine;
  • 102.2 grams of fentanyl;
  • 2 karambits [curved knives]; and
  • 10 shotgun shells.

Hinton RCMP also charged Nathan Paul (36), a resident of Hinton, with:

  • Possession with the intent to traffic (x2)
  • Breach of release order
  • Breach of prohibition order
  • Breach of probation order

Two other suspects were also arrested and charges are pending. Paul was brought before a Justice of the Peace and remanded into custody with his next court appearance set for Aug. 16, 2023, at the Alberta Court of Justice in Hinton.
