Jasper Art Gallery was buzzing on Saturday night at the opening reception of a showcase of local artists’ work.
The Buzz features 117 pieces of classic fine art by 24 artists, all from Jasper, in a range of mediums.
Greg Deagle, volunteer exhibition coordinator, said the exhibit is an opportunity for all Jasper artists to show their work in a professional environment.
And this is the second Buzz exhibition. The first one was launched during Jasper in January in 2019.
Deagle said: “We were very motivated by the tremendous success that we enjoyed last year and we were asked by the Jasper in January event planners to revisit the Buzz because it was an important element in making the night of the street party event more successful than it already was.”
Some of this year’s artists are returning from last year and 10 to 14 of them are new. Deagle said they were “thrilled” to see their work on the wall.
“It makes artists feel valued and appreciated,” he said.
“It gives them a purpose to continue creating and ultimately selling.”
The event is also a platform for Jasper Artists Guild to draw in new members.
“We hope that by offering the opportunity to exhibit it will be a positive experience for them and they might consider becoming full members,” said Deagle.
This year’s opening reception was held on the same night as Jasper’s ATCO Street Party, January 25.
Deagle said about 275 people attended the art event and described the night as “very lively and very colourful”.
Jasper Artists Guild gave special thank to all participating artists, Jasper Liquor Lodge, Pursuit Banff Jasper Collection and their hospitality team, DJ Childsize Medium (Taylor Booth), bartenders Connor Small and Jennifer Wasylyk, gallery attendant Mark Prinn and Joyce E Butler and Jasper Artists Guild's volunteers.
