Construction has begun on an eastbound passing lane on Highway 16 near Jasper Airfield, east of the townsite.
Work began on Monday, May 13, off the existing highway, maintaining two-way traffic and access to the Jasper airfield.
This work is part of Parks Canada’s $3 billion investment over five years to support infrastructure work to heritage, tourism, waterway, and highway assets located within national historic sites, national parks, and national marine conservation areas across Canada.
A Parks spokesman said: "Thank you for your patience and cooperation as we work to improve visitor safety.
"The safety of motorists and workers is of utmost importance to Parks Canada.
"Please respect traffic control personnel and obey all posted road signs and reduced speed zones."
What to expect:
- Work will occur daily from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m., up to seven days a week.
- Motorists can expect speed reductions to 50 km/hr, and brief occasional stops at the work site.
- Work is expected to continue until the end of June 2019.
