Jasper councillors have approved part of the 2020 capital budget.

Projects totalling $1,746,500 have been approved - including $270,000 for arena lobby roof replacement and the second half of a new rescue vehicle for the fire department for $375,000.

But there is still $4,416,200 of proposed projects for 2020 “in the parking lot” that will be discussed further in the new year.

That includes the $1.47 million replacement of slab and boards at the arena, $245,000 on upgrades to the activity centre main entrance, $250,000 on an office/meeting space design and construction and $250,000 on parking lot paving and drains.

And, subject to the Recreation Review due mid-January, $300,000 on the curling rink slab and brine lines. That project will cost $600,000 in total but a $300,000 donation has been made towards the work.

The total proposed 2020 budget has a 5.59 per cent increase to property tax. That’s an increase of about $7 per year per $100,000 assessed value of your house.

So if your home is worth $750,000 you’ll be paying $1,798 per year, about $52 extra.

And for commercial properties the increase equates to about an extra $35 per $100,000 assessed value per year.
