Students from Jasper Elementary School showed off their musical talent during the annual Yellowhead Regional Arts Festival last week.

The weeklong competition features eight disciplines, including piano, voice, speech, guitar, band, recorder, photography and Lego.

Although the majority of the competition was held in Hinton, the recorder and band competitions were both held in Jasper.

“The Yellowhead Regional Arts Festival provides the opportunity for participants of all ages and abilities to showcase their talents in a fun and encouraging atmosphere,” said Jacqueline Delisle, the festival director, in an emailed statement.

The recorder performance was held at the elementary school and included songs such as “I Like to Move It, Move It” and “In Dreams,” the theme song from Lord of the Rings.

The band competition was held at Jasper Junior/Senior High School earlier in the day.

“Band and recorder are one of my favourite categories. It’s a lot of fun to go to and it’s just an amazing, energetic event,” said Delisle.

“The teachers work very hard with their students all year for the festival, and the results are evident.”
