Air services searched for missing tourist Zexin “Joe” Yue from the sky on Friday.
Yue, 23, was reported missing August 25.
It is confirmed that he was dropped off by a bus at the Jasper Shell at 1:15 p.m. August 19 and hasn’t been seen since.
On August 30, 2019 RCMP K Division Air Services conducted an aerial search of the Bald Hills area while Jasper RCMP officers and Parks Canada Visitor Safety specialists conducted a ground search of the area.
This deployment was organized after a hiker reported a possible sighting of Yue on the Bald Hills trail.
RCMP K Division Air Services and Parks Canada Law Enforcement wardens also searched the area surrounding the Celestine Lake trail after information was obtained that Yue might have shown interest in this area.
Police are asking anyone who was in the area of the Bald Hills trail or Celestine Lake trail between August 25 and August 30 and may have noticed anything out of the ordinary to contact the Jasper RCMP.
Police are also asking anyone who may have inadvertently picked up Yue who could have been hitchhiking on the highway to contact the Jasper RCMP.
Police said it is possible that Joe Yue made efforts to go hiking in the Jasper area and due to his inexperience, Jasper RCMP believe his safety may be at risk if he’s not located, according to Const. Jerome Berube-Bourgeois.
Zexin Joe Yue is described as:
• Asian
• Black hair / brown eyes
• 5’6” tall / 150 lbs. (thin build)
He was last seen wearing camo shoes and carrying a backpack. (same colour and pattern as the one on the attached photo)
