The Jasper United Church kicked off its 53rd annual plant sale fundraiser on May 27.
The Jasper tradition took place for three days this past weekend down at the McCready Centre.
As per usual, the first day of the church’s plant sale had the community lined up outside, roaring and ready to go.
“They come see the line and go ‘oh, no,’ but then they end up seeing people and friends they haven’t seen in a year,” said Janice Yeaman, one of the church’s many volunteers who helped put on the fundraiser.
But no matter how long of line the community had to wait in, every single person had smiles on their faces from the beginning all the way through to the end.
“It’s just such a social event,” Yeaman said.
From baskets of tomatoes, to petunia and pansy baskets, the church had something there for everyone.
“With all the plants out there, it’s so cheery and happy; it’s a great place to be, the best place to be this time of year,” Yeaman said.
All the plants for the church’s sale every year get supplied to them from Templeton’s Greenhouses located in Edson.
Funds allow the church to rent out the centre at a low price to school groups, Girl Guides and others.
The church also provides outreach through its thrift shop.
Even with the current COVID restrictions, this once again did not hold the Jasper community back from showing its support for the community and the church.
“I think the community really looks forward to this,” Yeaman said.
The Jasper United Church thanked the Jasper community for the continued support of the plant sale every year and can’t wait to welcome the community back next year.
