KANANASKIS — Prime Minister Mark Carney is meeting with U.S. President Donald Trump at the G7 summit in Alberta — their second sit-down meeting since Carney won the election in late April.
The leaders came to the summit in Kananaskis accompanied by delegations that include Intergovernmental Affairs Minister Dominic LeBlanc, U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent and U.S. Trade Representative Jamieson Greer.
A White House media note says Trump and Carney are meeting one-on-one.
The meeting comes after Carney and Trump spent weeks exchanging phone calls and text messages in an attempt to resolve an economic conflict caused by Trump's tariffs.
Foreign Affairs Minister Anita Anand has described the talks as "sensitive" because of the deep integration of both economies.
It's Trump's first visit here since he started repeatedly calling for Canada to become an U.S. state, leading Canadian fans to boo the American anthem at hockey games.
