Trans Mountain donated $5,000 towards a new skatepark in Jasper last month through its community investment program.

“This particular donation was one that we wanted to put forward, just seeing the support within the community for the skatepark project,” said Andrea Manchon, manager of engagement with Trans Mountain.

Manchon said they were interested in donating towards programs that have “a positive legacy in the community.”

“We know the temporary skatepark that’s been in place in Jasper for several years has been well used, a great place for youth and adults alike, so putting something more permanent in the community is something we’re supportive of,” she said.

In previous years, Trans Mountain has provided support to the Jasper Food Bank, Jasper Family Services, Jasper Municipal Library, Jasper Canada Day Committee, Jasper Heritage Rodeo and Jasper Elementary Playground.

On Feb. 2, Jasper Municipal Council committed up to $300,000 for a new skatepark, conditional on matching funds. Council will also consider a portion of the land known as Diamond A in Centennial Park for construction of the skatepark.
