A snowfall warning is now in effect for Highway 93, the Icefield Parkway.

The warning was issued at 4:31 a.m. on January 7 as snowfall of 15 to 20 centimetres is expected.

A Pacific weather system is expected to bring heavy snow to the Icefield Parkway beginning late this afternoon.

Snowfall totals are expected to be around 20 centimetres before the snow tapers off on Wednesday afternoon.

Blowing snow in open areas is also expected to create snow drifts over the highway.

Prepare for quickly changing and deteriorating travel conditions.

If visibility is reduced while driving, slow down, watch for tail lights ahead and be prepared to stop.

Continue to monitor alerts and forecasts issued by Environment Canada. To report severe weather, send an email to [email protected] or tweet reports using #ABStorm.
