Jasper National Park is so excited that the Pyramid Bench has reopened it actually got creative with the press release announcing it Thursday afternoon.

“The time has come to get off of the sidelines and back onto the bench,” the positively giddy bulletin read.
Forestry crews spent the winter months removing trees in mountain pine beetle affected forest to provide additional protection to the Jasper townsite in the event of a wildfire.

“This spring, Parks Canada staff made Pyramid Bench rehabilitation a priority,” the release explained. “Their efforts, combined with the work of the contractor and Jasper Trail Alliance volunteers, resulted in the majority of trails opening much earlier than expected. Parks Canada appreciates the patience and co-operation of residents and visitors alike in respecting the closures on the bench over the last few months.”
Parks says road and trail rehabilitation work is still underway in the area between Cottonwood Slough and Patricia Lake (6b and 6d), and along a section of trail (8c) which requires more intensive rehabilitation.
These three trails remain closed (see map.)

There are a few items you should be aware of as you venture on to the new landscape:
- The Pyramid Bench has changed. The open areas will leave you wondering, “Where am I”? Get your bearings and take time to pick your route.
- Jasper National Park trail crews and volunteers have cleared and delineated the trails however, you will still find debris on some sections. Please be careful, especially if you are riding a bike.
- Stay on the official trail system.
- Remember that bikes and horses are permitted only on signed official trails.
- Please respect the closures on trails.
"The remaining trails on the Pyramid Bench will be open soon," the release concludes. "Stay tuned!"
