Last year’s Annual Public Forum returned to an in-person format for the first time since 2019.

Mark your calendars for Tuesday, March 12. That is the date when Jasper National Park’s Annual Public Forum will be coming to the Jasper Activity Centre.

The event is Parks Canada’s opportunity to share highlights and engage directly with the public through a series of themed booths representing the different facets of operations here in Jasper.

“A lot of significant progress was made in 2023 and we look forward to hearing directly from participants who care about Jasper National Park,” said Alan Fehr, Jasper Field Unit Superintendent, in a statement.

Fehr will give his annual year in review presentation while Parks Canada staff will share highlights of the past year and talk about upcoming priorities for the park for the year ahead.

The doors open at 6 p.m. at the Jasper Activity Centre with Fehr’s presentation taking place at 6:30 p.m. People can then walk around the booths, each centered on one topic.

Last year’s forum had table topics including trails, fire, bears in the valley, visitation, Indigenous relations, caribou, and realty and development until 8 p.m.

For the first time ever, this year’s annual forum format will allow for participants to also join in virtually, giving more people the chance to attend and learn about what is going on around Jasper National Park.

“We hope to reach more people this way and I encourage anyone who lives in, has an interest in, or has visited the park to participate,” Fehr said.

The date for the virtual Annual Public Forum is Wednesday, March 13. Held via Microsoft Teams, the event will take place with Fehr’s year in review presentation starting at 6:30 p.m. and an open Question and Answer session with Parks Canada staff from 7 p.m. till 8 p.m.

More details on the table topic discussions and the 2023 Annual Report will be shared and made available on the Jasper National Park website prior to the Annual Public Forum.
