JASPER – Miette Hot Springs has reopened for the season, but the winding road leading to this isolated destination has yet to be repaired following a 2023 mudslide.

This small section of Miette Road continues to be single-lane alternating traffic, and automated traffic lights are in place to manage traffic.

“Parks Canada recognizes the Miette Road closure continues to impact visitors’ travel plans as well as local businesses and their staff,” the agency stated in an email. “To address this situation, Parks Canada is currently conducting conceptual planning and option analysis for Miette Road reconstruction.”

A timeline for implementation is not yet available.

Located in Jasper National Park, the destination is the hottest hot springs in the Canadian Rockies and is roughly a one-hour drive from either Hinton or Jasper.

The natural hot springs water flows from the mountain at 54 Celsius and is then cooled to 40 C as it enters the hot springs pool.

Parks Canada advises that there are no food or retail services available onsite, although guests can potentially stay at Miette Hot Spring Bungalows or Miette Campground.

Motorists are asked to review vehicle size restrictions and check 511 Alberta for real-time updates on road conditions and closures.
