The Icefields Parkway could be closed as early as noon on Wednesday, Jan. 12 from Athabasca Falls to Saskatchewan River Crossing.

Parks Canada says the closure would allow crews to quickly begin implementing avalanche control actions on Thursday morning.

The day-use area at Athabasca Falls would remain accessible.

Maligne Lake Road could also close from south of Maligne Canyon, but the day-use area at Maligne Canyon would remain accessible.

The goal would be to have both roads reopened during the afternoon of Friday, Jan. 14.
