Wildfire smoke has been coming in from the north and affecting the Yellowhead County area, including Hinton and Edson.

Alberta Wildfire says the heavy smoke settling over the Edson Forest Area is not produced by a wildfire nearby.

The smoke is coming from northern British Columbia, according to FireSmoke Canada.

Both Hinton and Edson are at a very high risk (10+) on the Air Quality Health Index as of Sunday morning, according to the West Central Airshed Society.

Monitor the Fitzhugh’s website for up-to-date air quality information.

The wildfire danger level is now considered “extreme” across the whole forest area, which means forest fuels are extremely dry and pose a serious fire risk.

This year, there have been 31 wildfires in the Edson Forest Area, burning a total of 78 hectares.

Suspected wildfires can be reported to 310-FIRE.

Anyone with smoke-related health concerns can contact Alberta 811.
