A 37-year-old man from Edson has died as a result of a two-vehicle collision in the westbound lanes of Highway 16 near Range Road 130 (Niton Junction) on Jan. 5.
A small passenger car travelling westbound had collided with the rear of a westbound semi-tractor trailer, which had entered the highway and was accelerating at the time of the collision, according to a preliminary investigation.
Emergency crews responded at about 6:35 p.m.
The driver of the car was the sole occupant and had to be extricated from the vehicle by fire crews. He was pronounced deceased at the scene.
The driver of the semi-tractor unit was not physically injured.
Police continue to investigate the collision, but no charges are anticipated.
