Four cases of COVID-19 have now been confirmed in Jasper.

The Alberta Health statistics map updated today (March 31) and showed an increase of three in the area.

For patient privacy and confidentially reasons, Alberta Health Services will not release any further details about the Jasper cases, like if they travel-related or community spread.

In the province, 64 new cases of COVID-19 have been confirmed, bringing the total to 754.

There have been 49 hospitalizations, 17 ICU submissions and nine people have died.

Dr. Deena Hinshaw, chief medical officer of health for Alberta, said 75 of the total 754 cases are believed to be the result of community transmission.

She called that number "concerning".

But while it was also revealed that 77 of the confirmed cases involve healthcare workers, including staff at continuing care facilities, Hinshaw said the majority of the cases were returning travelers or someone who attended an Edmonton bonspiel, not while they were providing care.
