Cops, Atha-B bouncers assaulted on Canada Day

They can’t just let it Atha-B. Jasper police say they were drawn into a fight in progress at about 2 a.m. Canada Day (or late Sunday night). Members on foot patrol noticed Athabasca Hotel security removing someone from the building.

“RCMP officers made contact with the individual and while talking to him, the brother of the individual assaulted an officer,” Const. Patrick Vallee said in a press release. “He was immediately arrested and taken into custody.”

A few minutes go by, and police are called back to the same place, warned that “multiple” men were assaulting the bouncers there outside the bar.

“Some of the males were also allegedly carrying weapons and threw rocks at the bouncers,” Vallee reported. “On scene, police arrested two males for assault and assault with a weapon.”

Three men aged under 23 face charges and are scheduled to appear in Jasper court Aug. 8.

Armel Ngoga, 22, is charged with assaulting a police officer. Placide Kirayi, 19, is charged with assault. Prince Giciro, also 22, is charged with assault with a weapon and carrying a weapon for the purpose of committing an assault.

The charges against the abovementioned individuals have not been proven in court.
