Woman charged with horse theft in central Alberta, horse still at large

A 28-year-old woman from Central Alberta is facing charges for allegedly stealing a horse, but the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) are now appealing to the public for assistance in locating the animal.

A 28-year old woman in Central Alberta has been charged as a horse thief, but RCMP are asking for help finding the horse.

According to information from RCMP, Ponoka County resident Katrina Doiron turned herself in to the Rimbey RCMP detachment on Aug. 14 after RCMP made it known there was a warrant for her arrest.

Doiron is accused of stealing a horse called Hank in June. According to the release she told RCMP she is in the process of selling him and refused to give information about his whereabouts when she turned herself in.

Police say Hank needs to be returned to his rightful owner and if you are in possession of him it is a criminal offence – possession of stolen property over $5,000.

Rimbey RCMP and the Livestock Investigative Unit are continuing to look for Hank and asking the public to contact your local police or Crime Stoppers with any information.

Doiron is charged with theft of cattle over $5,000. She was released on an undertaking and will appear in court in Rimbey on Oct. 1.
