Barefoot Bob is a one-man party.
The Hawaiian shirt wearing Edmonton-based entertainer weaves together surf rock, folk, roots and reggae to create “fiesta rock ‘n’ roll,” which he plays using a loop pedal and numerous instruments, from the ukulele to the lap steel.
Barefoot Bob, also known as Bob Cook, will be in Jasper Jan. 16 to share his talents, first during a ukulele workshop hosted by Jasper Habitat for the Arts, and then in a live show at the Jasper Legion.
The workshop will take place from 4 p.m. until 6 p.m. Participants are encouraged to wear their most colourful Hawaiian shirts for a $2 discount on the workshop’s entrance fee.
According to the event description, “beginners and ‘I-always-secretly-wanted-to-play-but-my-momma-told-me-I-have-no-musical-talent’ types are welcome. Bob will have you playing a song within an hour and restore your faith in your fine self.”
If the workshop’s not for you, there will also be a beach party that evening, with Cook performing his upbeat originals, as well as a few covers.
People are encouraged to embrace the theme, showing up in beach-wear and drinking the tropical cocktails that are whipped up behind the bar.
Cook will take the legion stage at 8 p.m.
To register for the workshop, call Sue at the Jasper Legion: 780-852-3740.
