Pitt and her husband, John, are originally from Scotland and now reside in Cambridge, UK.

The couple encountered Tourism Jasper’s booth at the UK Ski Show in London, England. There, they entered a draw to win a one-week trip to Jasper, which included lift tickets to Marmot Basin, and seven nights accommodation with Mountain Park Lodges.

It’s the perfect vacation for the Pitts, who are avid skiers. Elaine’s name was drawn out of 350 entires.

The couple were in the midst of enjoying their trip last week, and planned to spend five consecutive days skiing Marmot Basin.

“The skiing is so different here, you can go anywhere,” said John. In Europe, many people stick to the runs and don’t ski all over the mountain, especially through the trees.

Their favourite Marmot run is Solace, they were the first skiers on it one morning and enjoyed cutting through fresh snow. Accustom to busy European resorts, the couple is surprised by Marmot’s light weekday traffic. Only once at chairlift there was a “line” of six people in front of them.

In Jasper, the Pitts enjoy the town’s calm pace. “It’s easy to be here, everyone’s so friendly,” said Elaine. The pair went to the Maligne Canyon and are in awe of Jasper’s natural wonders.

While the bus ride to Calgary’s airport for the plane ride home will be bittersweet, the couple look forward to mountainous sights along the way.

“You pass literally nothing,” said John, referring to towns and cities he’d encounter if he were travelling in Europe. The stark ruggedness is appealing.

Elaine is curious about Jasper during summer months. “I’d love to come back and camp for a month.”
