Travel Through Time with piano concert

“The focus of their concert is music history,” said Billie McKee, piano teacher and member of the Alberta Piano Teachers Association. It’s a “historical snapshot of music through time.”

She heard about Travel Through Time while at the Alberta Piano Teachers Association Conference last September.

The tunes begin with Baroque-style music, progress to Mozart and Chopin, and even include ragtime, Broadway, and Gershwin pieces. Their performance also boasts relevant time-period costume changes.

Unrau and Steeves have collaborated musically for many years. Both hold performance diplomas and have trained at the Royal Conservatory of Music in Toronto. Unrau founded Bella Vita Music, a company that provides music at fundraisers, functions and events like weddings.

“We’ve lined up an afternoon workshop,” adds McKee. Beginning at 2 p.m., Unrau and Steeves will host the hour-long Six Centuries in 60 Minutes and examine music throughout history. McKee notes that one doesn’t need to be a musician to attend.

The workshop is free to concert ticket holders and $10 for those without concert tickets.

Tickets for the dinner and duet are $65 and available at Chateau Jasper. Cocktails begin at 6 p.m., with the concert to follow.
