A father and two boys aged eight and 12 were rescued from the Athabasca River after their canoe overturned on July 5.
According to Parks Canada, the family of three capsized their canoe on the Athabasca River just south of Jasper.
The two boys were missing at one point but were quickly located along the river. All three were wearing life jackets.
Parks Canada is reminding the public that while rivers are a great place to explore by canoe, kayak or raft, it requires an understanding of the power of the river and the ability to roll or survive a flip in very cold water.
The agency is also reminding the public that life jackets or personal floatation devices are critical and suggests taking a safe boating course.
Other tips include checking the weather forecast before heading out, learning to swim well – especially while wearing clothing, never paddle alone and chose bright colours so that other boat operators can see you.
