Last year’s Jasper Got Talent variety show saw dancers, musicians, a trio of singing brothers and even a stand-up comedian grace the stage.
This year, organizers of the fundraiser for the Jasper band program are once again putting out the call for performers of all types, talents and ages.
“We are looking for anyone who wants to showcase their talent. We take any talent, from any age,” said Ann Thomas, one of the event organizers.
The event is entering its fourth year, and has become a major fundraiser for the band. In the past it has helped pay for trips abroad, to replace broken equipment and purchase new instruments.
This year, all the money raised will be put toward the senior band’s trip to New Orleans, happening this May. According to Thomas, the 10-day trip will give students the opportunity not only to rehearse and perform with a local high school band, but also experience a number of New Orleans’ most famous attractions.
“The itinerary is terrific, actually,” Thomas said. “They’re squeezing in a number of concerts and festivals, because we want to expose the kids to as much as we can.”
It’s an exciting trip for members of the band, which is why Thomas hopes this year’s Jasper’s Got Talent will be just as successful as it has been in the past.
She said that aside from the host of sure-to-be talented performers, the event will also feature a silent auction, and cheap popcorn and snacks for purchase.
“It’s a full meal deal. It’s not just coming in and watching, the audience gets into it. It’s a great night out for 10 bucks.”
She said that on the night of the show, audience members can expect 15-16 acts, as well as special guest performers.
Anyone interested in auditioning for the Feb. 12 show can call Thomas at 780-852-4321 to set up a personal audition, or send a YouTube video featuring their performance to [email protected].
The deadline for submissions is Feb. 1.
