KISS was in Jasper, July 31, except instead of Gene Simmons and a bunch of other burly dudes, the band was made up of a group of ladies who were “Hotter Than Hell.”

The hard-rockin’ girls were sporting their best makeup for HIV West Yellowhead’s annual Halloween in July party at the Atha-B.

They were among many other costumed ghouls and caricatures, including a bag of Jelly Belly’s and a group of 1950s lifeguards.

Through a cover charge, the event raised $1,400 for the non-profit.

That adds to the $3,600 that was raised July 19 during Dine 4 Life, where servers from select restaurants donated their tips to HIVWY. For the second year in a row, the top earner was Jasper Pizza Place, which donated $1,774. Syrah’s, which participated for the first time this year, came in second with $403, while Coco’s Cafe and Cassio’s tied for third place with $400.

Dine 4 Life, which was formerly called Servers Against AIDS Day, had a record number of participating restaurants match their server’s donations this year. Jasper Pizza Place, Cassio’s, Downstream, Coco’s and Syrah’s all provided matching donations.

The funds from that event will be split between HIV West Yellowhead and the Stephen Lewis Foundation.
