Connie Sawka’s Grade 6 students transformed their classroom into a haunted house, Oct. 29, to raise money for Plan Canada, a not-for-profit that mobilizes millions of people around the world to support social justice for children in developing countries.
Jasper Elementary School students who toured the haunted house donated $2 to meet fortune tellers, play pin the nose on the witch and answer Halloween riddles. They also got a chance to touch ogre’s ears and witches snot.
The haunted house is an annual fundraiser. In the past students have donated the funds to purchase 30 mango trees, five birth certificates, two beehive kits, literacy training for women, classroom essentials for children, clean water for seven families, four goats, a baby buffalo, mosquito nets, a motorcycle ambulance and a farm load of animals.
