You may have noticed that a hole just popped up in the line of buildings on the east end of Connaught Drive. The structure that once sat on Block 3, Lot 16—next to the old Everything But—was recently demolished, and in a few months time a new Servus Credit Union building will take its place.
Valerie Glaves, manager for the bank’s Jasper branch, said the company has wanted to move from the slightly cramped location at 615 Patricia St. since acquiring the lease for the Connaught Drive property more than a year ago.
“We’ve been jammed in this little tiny space for a long time,” she said.
Last December Parks approved Servus’ request to have the lot’s parking stalls waved, and with a building permit issued and the old structure destroyed, Glaves said construction of the new building will ramp up in July.
She said the building should be finished by November, and the new location up and running by January.
Servus also runs the registries office in Jasper, and their new, more spacious, location means that service—which currently operates out of a small room in the Jasper Activity Centre—will finally be consolidated with the rest of the office.
