Seat belts are likely the reason seven people will still be able to enjoy Christmas this year after a three-car collision on Highway 16, Dec. 21.
According to Fire Chief Greg Van Tighem, a Chevy pickup truck hit a Jeep Grand Cherokee as it attempted to cross Highway 16 and Hazel Avenue, shortly after 11 a.m.
“Apparently the driver didn’t see the Jeep traveling eastbound on Highway 16 when he pulled out,” said Van Tighem.
The impact caused the pickup truck to roll backwards hitting a Sundog Tours’ bus that had stopped at the intersection. There were no guests on the bus at the time of the accident.
There were no reports of injuries, however, Van Tighem said the two adults and two children who were in the Jeep Grand Cherokee went to the hospital as a precaution.
“Nobody was hurt because they all had seat belts on,” said Van Tighem.
He said it was unlikely road conditions played a factor because the highway was clear of snow and ice and visibility was good.
