Despite the on again, off again rain, it was another busy weekend in Jasper, with a car show, safety fair, youth bike program and road opening all taking place on Saturday.
Safety first
Information on food safety, home safety, fire prevention and emergency preparedness was on display at the fire hall, for the annual Community Safety Fair. The fair is organized by the municipality and includes booths from numerous community groups and agencies like ATCO Electric, HIV West Yellowhead, Community Outreach Services, Parks Canada and the MS Society of Canada, among others.
Start your engines
Fancy hot rods and vintage rides were on display next to the old fire hall, Saturday afternoon, attracting all kinds of people to peak under the hood and through the windows. There was everything from a Shelby Mustang to a Mercury Monarch and a Mini Cooper with a British Flag on the roof.
Changing landscape
Cavell Road was quietly opened to the public on Friday at noon, with the official opening coming into effect the following day. The road has been closed to the public since the fall of Ghost Glacier last August. Already on Saturday, the parking lot was full with visitors excited to see how the landscape was changed by the icefall and resulting outbreak and air blast.
Eyes on the road
Kids pumped their pedals and practiced their hand signals this weekend during the annual Pedal Pushers bike program in the Activity Centre parking lot. The program is designed for youth ages five through 12 and aims to teach them to ride safely in traffic, to avoid collisions and to follow traffic signs on the road and trail etiquette on the trails.
